What Makes a Great House Cleaner?

After 14 years cleaning homes in Leicester, I've learned that the difference between a good cleaner and a great one isn't really about products or equipment. It's about attitude.
They actually care about the job
You can't fake this one. A cleaner who cares will clean the inside of the microwave without being asked. They'll wipe down the skirting boards without you pointing them out. They'll notice the limescale building up around the tap and sort it before it gets worse. A cleaner who doesn't care will wipe surfaces and call it done. You can always tell the difference.
They're consistent
The best cleaners don't have good days and bad days — or at least, they don't let it show in their work. You should be able to trust that every visit will be to the same high standard. That consistency is what keeps clients for years.
They communicate honestly
If something's been broken, they tell you. If they can't make it to a booking, they give you notice. If they notice a problem in the property — a leak, a pest, a crack — they let you know. Good communication builds trust.
They're reliable and self-employed
They show up. On time. Every time. When you hire through an agency, you don't always know who's coming. When you hire a self-employed cleaner directly, you get the same person every time — someone who's invested in the relationship and their reputation. That's how I work. It's always me.
